The Seattle Mariners and Nintendo of America have announced a partnership for a jersey patch, starting immediately. The patch will feature Nintendo’s red, rectangular logo on the left arm sleeve on the home jerseys, while having the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 with its own distinct patch on the team’s away uniforms.

In addition, Nintendo of America’s sensationally named president, Doug Bowser, announced that Julio Rodríguez will be a “brand ambassador” for the company, highlighted with a brief clip to show off the new unis.

The Mariners have a longstanding relationship with Nintendo, and Nintendo of America, of course. However, since former Nintendo of America executive Howard Lincoln ostensibly stepped back from the chairman role, and Nintendo of America sold many of its ownership shares to the John Stanton-led coalition now running the club, the gaming giant has had a much smaller role in the Mariners.

However, Nintendo’s intervention, at the leadership of Nintendo’s venerable third president Hiroshi Yamauchi in 1992, the Mariners were able to remain in Seattle and avoid a potential, even likely relocation. The compensation rate of the jersey patch deal is not yet public, however it is the first such deal for the Mariners.
