Former Reading FC youngster linked with Championship move
Former Reading youngster Caylan Vickers could be on his way back to the Championship next season after impressing with Mansfield Town
The 20-year-old rose through the Academy with his boyhood club and scored three times in 22 appearances for the first team before departing in January 2024, part of the ‘fire sale’ of players to raise funds for the club.
Moving to Premier League Brighton and Hove Albion on a long-term deal, the midfielder was a prominent player for their Under-21s until January 2025, when he signed a short-term deal with the Stags in League One.
Since then, he has picked up two goal contributions in 10 appearances for Nigel Clough’s side, who are sat in mid-table but looking to pull clear of any relegation threat.
No doubt harbouring hopes to stake a claim to play at the Amex Stadium, with the Seagulls challenging for the European places this season, Vickers may have to be content with another EFL campaign next season.
“Brighton youngster Caylan Vickers is being tracked by several Championship sides following his impressive form on loan at Mansfield Town,” said Peter O’Rourke of Football Insider. “Interested sides are considering loan and permanent moves.”
Reading will be reacquainted with the Academy graduate next month as the Royals travel to Mansfield on Easter Monday, the first trip to Field Mill since the 1970s.
