Hull City loan ace Joe Gelhardt sent Leeds United transfer advice
The Liverpool-born ace has become a firm favourite on the terraces at City
Former Aston Villa attacker Lee Hendrie believes Joe Gelhardt needs to leave Championship table-toppers Leeds United in order to fulfil his career potential.
Gelhardt is on loan at Hull City and has impressed since swapping West for East Yorkshire in January, finding the net three times; though, there’s an argument to say it should be four, given his inswinging corner went in the net at Sunderland before being credited as an Anthony Patterson own goal.
City’s on-loan star, who is a popular figure at the MKM Stadium, impressed again at The Hawthorns on Saturday, coming close to winning the game for the Tigers, who had to settle for a 1-1 draw.
The 22-year-old had played just nine minutes for Leeds in the early weeks of the season, but has been an ever-present since moving to City and being given freedom to express himself by boss Ruben Selles, and is loving his football.
City would love to bring Gelhardt back next season, but with the ex-Wigan Athletic youngster under contract at Elland Road until the summer of 2027, doing a permanent deal could be challenging.
Despite that, however, Hendrie feels the forward’s career would benefit from a move away from the Whites to a club where he’s going play regularly, something that feels increasingly unlikely at Elland Road, especially if, as expected, they seal promotion to the Premier League.
