Agent indicates Brentford man’s future unclear – Putting injury behind him
In the winter market, Fiorentina allowed Michael Kayode to join Brentford on a loan deal with an option to buy.
The right-back has been limited to 30 minutes from four Premier League games for the Bees. Earlier this month, he picked up a knee injury and hasn’t featured for Brentford since then.
Two days ago, we covered claims from Italy which stated Brentford could decide not to exercise the purchase option.
Radio Firenze Viola got in touch with the 20-year-old’s agent, Andrea Ritorni, to get some clarity about his client’s situation at Brentford and future plans.
The representative states the Italy U21 international is relieved that his knee injury isn’t serious. He added the fullback has Thomas Frank’s confidence and featured for Brentford in a friendly during the international break.
When the agent was told that Kayode isn’t enjoying regular minutes at Brentford, he said: “Numbers count and don’t count. Kayode played a good friendly against West Ham today.
“He had a knee injury and was out for more than a month. Michael comes from a different kind of football, but the coach has a lot of faith in his abilities and always puts him in during the game.
“He was supposed to debut from the beginning but then he got hurt. Initially the knee injury had alarmed us, but fortunately it was nothing serious.”
The defender’s contract with the Serie A club lasts until 2028. When asked whether his story with Fiorentina is over, Ritorni explained: “I don’t have the magic ball, there is a buyout [clause] in favour of Brentford. He’s fine there now, if they buy him Fiorentina will take his money, otherwise he will return to Florence.
“If he is at this level now it is thanks to Fiorentina, but he still has great room for growth. The boy is very happy, but don’t worry, we will bring another Kayode to Fiorentina.”
Kayode’s performances until the end of the season could be key for Brentford to decide whether to retain him.
