Leicester City affected by new FA rule as they face extended wait to play
Leicester City fans may be eagle-eyed enough to know that they are having to wait longer for their return to action.
It’s been almost two weeks since the Foxes were hammered by Manchester United and with Premier League survival still mathematically possible, fans will be keen to see if Ruud van Nistelrooy can pull off the unlikely.
Now that the international break is over, many would expect the return of top flight football but that isn’t the case. Instead, there is FA Cup quarter final action.
Usually, the two would be played across the same weekend, especially when only seven of the 13 Premier League sides remain. However, that’s all changed.
New rule prevents Premier League clashes with FA Cup quarter final ties
On FA Cup Fourth Round and Fifth Round dates, clubs are usually given a break from top flight fixtures – usually because of how many are still in the competition.
By the time the quarter finals come around, Premier League action resumes and is played whilst the cup competitions.
However, via TalkSPORT, the FA have introduced a new rule in which the quarter-finals will have their own dedicated days.
Leicester, who were knocked out after a controversial Harry Maguire winner, are affected by this and will now have an extra few days to prepare for their next game.
