Exact Derby County, Cardiff and Stoke points tallies predicted as Luton improve
Derby County are back in action when they face Preston North End at Pride Park on Wednesday evening
Three consecutive wins have given Derby County hope – but they remain far from certain to stay up.
That’s according to the number crunchers at Opta Analyst who have predicted the final outcome of the Championship relegation battle and 41.24% chance of going down.
While many would be willing to take their chances with the other 59%, that’s still ranked the third highest chance of demotion.
Bottom club Plymouth Argyle have little more than a 2 per cent chance of avoiding the drop, while Luton who beat Hull City at the weekend, are still rated as 64.4% to drop into League One.
What is undeniable though is that wins over Blackburn, Coventry and Plymouth have closed the gap on Cardiff City whose relegation prospect is rated at 40.44%, only fractionally less perilous than the Rams’.
Indeed if John Eustace can steer his team for a fourth win on the spin against Preston North End on Wednesday night, those numbers will shift again because it would lift them out of the bottom three. It would also give them confidence over their run-in which features battles with strugglers like Portsmouth, Hull, Luton and of course the final day showdown with Stoke City.
Meanwhile Eustace insists his squad is in good heart ahead of the final month of the campaign.
“I think everyone’s really excited about the eight games coming up. We’ve had a couple of good weeks now on the training field as well, which has been great,” he told Rams TV.
