Disastrous Wrexham trend needs to end if Phil Parkinson’s side are to avoid slip up in League One promotion race
Wrexham are preparing for another tricky away trip as they look to continue their charge towards League One promotion.
Wrexham’s win over Exeter kept Phil Parkinson’s side in the final automatic promotion spot as they now prepare for a clash with Cambridge United at the Abbey Stadium.
Cambridge are replicating Wrexham’s tv documentary but the Red Dragons will be hoping that is the only repeat of the evening following a frustrating 2-2 draw against The U’s at the Racecourse Ground in December 2024.
Parkinson has praised Jay Rodriguez for his recent form in front of goal and attitude on the training pitch and he will need every member of the Wrexham squad to try and improve a worrying trend that could derail their League One promotion bid.
Wrexham’s disastrous midweek form
Wrexham go into the clash with Cambridge having won just one of their last seven games played on a Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday evening.
That solitary win came thanks to a Steven Fletcher winner at Huddersfield Town at beginning of March and the Red Dragons can ill-afford any slip ups as the end of season run in reaches boiling point.
The wretched run began with a 2-1 defeat away at Barnsley and there have been further midweek defeats since then at the hands of Shrewsbury, Stevenage, Leyton Orient and most recently Reading.
