Cavaliers, Thunder Approaching NBA History Seen Just Twice Before
Back in the 2020-21 season, the Oklahoma City Thunder and Cleveland Cavaliers were languishing near the bottom of the league. Now, they have a chance to make NBA history as the third pair of teams to both achieve at least 65 wins in a single season. The NBA took note of the approaching history for both teams in a post on X before Wednesday’s slate of games. Entering their respective matchups, the Thunder had already won 63 games, while the Cavaliers were already at 60 wins.
Sure enough, the two teams didn’t disappoint, with the Thunder taking down the Detroit Pistons 119-103 and the Cavs beating the New York Knicks 124-105. With that said, it will definitely be quite a difficult task for them. As for the Thunder,
They only need one more win, and they should be able to get that in their final six games. As the NBA noted, only the Golden State Warriors and San Antonio Spurs in 2015-16 and the Cleveland Cavaliers and Los Angeles Lakers in 2008-09 were able to win 65 or more games in the same season. With the regular season coming to an end soon, both Cleveland and Oklahoma City are set to enter the playoffs with a lot of momentum on their side. If they manage to achieve this historic feat, expect the two teams to become more motivated to win it all in the postseason.
