Jason Cundy makes ‘Corrupt’ admission after Leeds United and David Coote news.
Jason Cundy was left with several questions on David Coote after The FA started a betting probe for a booking given against Leeds United.
The 42-year-old messaged with a friend before the Leeds clash with West Brom in October 2019, who told the official to book Ezgjan Alioski [The Sun].
There is no suggestion that any financial gains were made with the referee denying the allegations but the FA are still opening an investigation into what Coote claims was only banter.
This left Cundy aghast live on talkSPORT (26 November) as he said: “This now goes to the heart of what is the most important thing in my life, it undermines the integrity and it says that the game can be corrupt.
“I don’t even know what my next question is. I believe the game isn’t corrupt, I believe that the integrity of the game is absolutely foolproof but this will leave every football fan questioning what they are hearing and reading.”
Jason Cundy left speechless by David Coote scandal
This is a bizarre situation which amid plenty of controversy for the match official is arguably the most damming of the lot.
Comments made about Jurgen Klopp weren’t a good look but it is almost impossible for him not to have an opinion about players and staff, they just can’t be made public.
There may have been a chance of making a return after this but now that his integrity has been thrown into disrepute, it could be a long way back for Coote even if he has fully denied any wrongdoing [Sky Sports].
Ironically, the booking to Alioski was deserved and no one inside Elland Road complained about the decision but the suggestion it could have been premeditated changes things.
The Macedonia international went on to win the clash against the Baggies for the Whites but now finds himself at the centre of this scandal.
It will be interesting to see how Leeds are impacted by this investigation as The FA continue to look into the allegations.
In other Leeds United news, one striker at Elland Road is wanted by Championship rivals as a January loan appears to be lined up.
