Ex-Wolves star questions Acun Ilicali in blunt assessment of Tim Walter’s Hull City reign
The heart-attack football never materialised under Tim Walter, says a leading Sky Sports commentator
Former Wolves striker Don Goodman admits Tim Walter was a risk Hull City took that hasn’t paid off, with the German boss sacked in the aftermath of Tuesday night’s defeat against Sheffield Wednesday.
Walter won just three of his 17 Championship games in charge, and was knocked out of the Carabao Cup in the first round by the Owls’ second-string early in the campaign, having failed to win any of the six pre-season games, which set alarm bells ringing.
The former Hamburg boss was given his marching orders by owner Acun Ilicali, who is now looking for a permanent replacement, with Andy Dawson taking caretaker charge of Saturday’s trip to Middlesbrough as he begins his second stint in caretaker charge of the Tigers, two years on from his first.
“I think we were all a little bit surprised, a little bit taken aback (about Liam Rosenior’s exit in the summer),” Goodman told Sky Sports shortly before Walter’s exit was confirmed. “The reasoning came out that Acun Ilicali was a little bit bored with the football, which really was a little bit of a surprise. Look, they’ve taken a real punt on Tim Walter for this so-called heart-attack football and we haven’t really seen it in the way that we imagined.
