“Closely coordinated with club” – Oliver Glasner responds to claims Crystal Palace blocked his exit.

Back in February, Crystal Palace parted ways with Roy Hodgson and appointed Oliver Glasner as his successor.

The Premier League side impressed under the German, losing three of their 13 league games last season. Crystal Palace were 15th when he arrived and finished in the 10th spot, three points behind ninth placed West Ham United.

Bayern Munich wanted a new manager for this season and looked at several candidates before confirming Vincent Kompany. Prior to his appointment, the Crystal Palace manager was said to be in contention for the Allianz Arena job.

Uli Hoeneß, the Bundesliga side’s honorary president, had earlier stated Glasner wanted to join Bayern, but the Eagles blocked his exit’. Fast forward to December and Fussball Transfers point it out.

They have also relayed comments made by the Crystal Palace boss to Kicker, responding to these claims. Glasner has made it clear that his focus was on the job in hand at the London club.

“First of all, I don’t comment on what Uli Hoeneß says. I’ve always focussed on Crystal Palace. Even when I was on holiday, I only dealt with Palace: Squad planning, transfers, everything was always closely coordinated with the club,” he said.

“It also makes no sense to talk now in December about something that happened or could have happened just under six months ago.”

Crystal Palace have struggled this season winning only two of their 15 league games so far. This has seen the Eagles sit 17th in the table four points above the relegation zone.
