Stoke City now ready to sell misfit striker in January transfer window after summer Wrexham interest.

Wrexham are in the market for attacking additions in the January transfer window and Phil Parkinson may be intrigued by one potential move.

Wrexham have endured two frustrating outings in a row.

The 2-2 home draw with Cambridge United saw Wrexham establish a lead before being pegged back late on.

Wrexham didn’t learn the lessons from that game as Saturday’s trip to Bristol Rovers was a repeat performance.

Wrexham were leading 1-0 late on but saw Promise Omochere head home a late equaliser, salvaging a point for the hosts.

Phil Parkinson was not happy with his Wrexham players for not seeing out the game as points were dropped again.

Wrexham-linked striker available in January
Parkinson will now prepare for a home double-header to see out 2024, with Blackpool and Wigan Athletic arriving over the coming days.

Wrexham will then look for new signings in the January transfer window with additions needed to boost the push for promotion.

Reports suggest that Wrexham want another striker in January to give Parkinson more firepower and hopefully kill games off moving forward.

Reporter Darren Witcoop now claims that Stoke City striker Niall Ennis is expected to secure a move away from the Potters in January.

Stoke are weighing up recalling teenage striker Nathan Lowe from a loan at Walsall. Decision over the teenager’s future to be made shortly. Niall Ennis is expected to leave Stoke with Barnsley among the League One clubs keen. #scfc #BarnsleyFC #walsall

It was Witcoop who suggested back in August that Wrexham had made enquiries into signing Ennis before the summer transfer deadline.

Ennis has barely played for Stoke this season, managing just 94 minutes across seven substitute appearances in the Championship.

The 25-year-old hasn’t even started a league game this season so it’s no surprise to see Stoke seemingly willing to let him go.

Witcoop doesn’t mention Wrexham this time though and suggests that Barnsley are interested in signing the striker.

Ennis may no longer fit what Wrexham want
Ennis is a little different to Wrexham’s current striking options given that he possesses a decent turn of pace in behind defences.

The former Shrewsbury Town loanee has previously scored goals in League One too, finding the net 22 times in 87 League One games at Plymouth Argyle.

Ennis was dubbed a ‘special talent’ by former Argyle boss Ryan Lowe as he praised the forward in quotes given to BBC Sport.

Yet those reports highlighting Wrexham’s chase of a striker suggested that the target was a proven Championship goalscorer.

Wrexham want a striker who can come in, make an impact in League One and hopefully win promotion before shining in the Championship too.

Ennis doesn’t quite fit that bill having scored just once in 21 Championship games across spells with Blackburn Rovers and Stoke.

Wrexham may well have taken a look at Ennis over the summer, but we think the standards have now risen and he is unlikely to be a target in this transfer window.
