Spurs make enquiry for Chelsea’s Axel Disasi as Tomori Plan B
Spurs have a few irons in the fire, it seems.

Fikayo Tomori appears to be Tottenham Hotspur’s first choice for an incoming central defender in this window, but that doesn’t mean they don’t have other irons in the fire. According to Fabrizio Romano (sigh) one of those irons is Chelsea central defender Axel Disasi, and Spurs have made an enquiry as to his availability.

Chelsea links aside, I don’t necessarily hate this idea, despite him already agreeing personal terms with Aston Villa. No, he hasn’t played much but we should also remember that Chelsea has about a billion central defenders on its books right now and they can’t play ALL of them. I know the idea of Disasi provokes an almost visceral response from some Spurs fans, but Disasi actually profiles as a pretty good fit in an Ange-Ball system — fast, good on the ball, able to take on defenders and proficient playing out of the back. He’s also pretty good in the air and has three goals during his 18 months with the Blues.

Now, the real question is whether Chelsea is at all willing to do business with Tottenham. Based on a decade of past experience, that answer is probably “no” — those waters have been more or less poisoned since Spurs beat back their attempt to buy Luka Modric. But with Chelsea under new ownership, maybe relations have softened slightly? Who knows.

Spurs want to bring in one or two defenders this window, so I’m sure we’ll be hearing more about this in the coming hours/days.
