Aston Villa get free run at £39m star who Eddie Howe rejected for Newcastle in 2024
Newcastle United are not a club that signs players for the sake of it, and that is not going to happen on transfer deadline day.
That is despite Newcastle United selling players and potentially leaving themselves short. Miguel Almiron has left Newcastle United, while Lloyd Kelly is joining Juventus.
Those two deals will boost the Magpies’ PSR position, but Newcastle are not expected to sign anyone. They are meticulous in the transfer market, with the recruitment team never really panicking since the change of ownership.
They have been willing to take risks and leave themselves short, with the view to being in a better position in the summer. Newcastle take short-term risks for long-term gains, and that is what they will hope for in 2025.
In contrast, Aston Villa are keen to look after the present.
Like Newcastle, they need centre-back reinforcements. Unlike Newcastle, they are aiming to act on transfer deadline day.
According to the Telegraph (9:49am), Aston Villa are expected to make a fresh move for Chelsea centre-back Axel Disasi.
The French defender has also attracted interest from Tottenham Hotspur, but the Telegraph have reported that Ange Postecoglou’s side are no longer in the mix for Disasi.
