Three reasons why the January transfer window was a disaster for Leicester City

The transfer window has been one to forget for Leicester City in simple terms.

Before 1 January, Ruud van Nistelrooy wanted to improve four positions. Now, after 11:00PM deadline on 3 February, only one player has joined the Foxes this month.

A tweet from Rob Tanner revealed Leicester incomings were unlikely and with no time left, he’s been proven right.

Leicester fans are rightfully angry with the lack of transfers and there are fears that Van Nistelrooy could quit the Foxes.

Although the January transfer window is renowned for being a difficult one to operate in, Leicester can’t help but feel short-changed when they look back on this month.

With that, here are three reasons why the January transfer window has been a disaster.

Leicester failed to recruit in key positions
It was obvious what Leicester needed to bring in this winter: a centre-back, full-back, winger and a striker.

Woyo Coulibaly’s arrival ticked the full-back box but in the two games so far, he has been restricted to two appearances off the bench.

Jannik Vestergaard and Wout Faes were woeful against Everton on Saturday and proved more than ever the need for defensive reinforcements.

Craig Dawson and Conor Coady almost moved in a swap deal, but that failed to take off and it would’ve hardly been an improvement.

Instead, the Foxes have missed out on plenty of targets and are now arguably worse off, with players like Odsonne Edouard earning plenty whilst not playing.

Jamie Vardy is the club’s top goal scorer with eight and can’t do it on his own.
