Stoke City summer signing gets 70-minute chance to catch Mark Robins’ eye
Bosun Lawal comes through his biggest test yet since injury while trialist scores twice against Huddersfield Town
Bosun Lawal has come through his longest run-out yet as he bids to take a step closer to proper Stoke City first team action.
The 21-year-old played in an attacking midfield role in a 70-minute appearance for the under-21s as they beat Huddersfield Town 4-2 at Clayton Wood in the Central League. He played 60 minutes last week at Reading in Premier League 2 and he has made three cameo appearances from the bench in the Championship.
Lawal showed his strength against Huddersfield’s B team in this next part of his fitness programme after returning from three months in the treatment room. A stress fracture in his lower back was flagged up in his medical when he signed from Celtic in the summer and he had to be a lot more patient than the initial four-week hopes.
An impressive trialist forward scored twice while defenders Jake Griffin and Jaden Dixon also found the net.
There is a chance that Lawal and Dixon could be involved this weekend when Stoke take on Cardiff at home in the FA Cup fourth round (Saturday, 3pm). Mark Robins will have to make at least two changes to the staring XI from the league win at Hull because Nathan Lowe and Ali Al-Hamadi are both cup tied.
Stoke have slashed ticket prices for the match and adult season ticket holders can get in for £12. It’s £10 for over-65s, £4 for under-18s and £1 for under-11s. Non-season ticket holders can get in for £14 or £12 for over-65s, £5 for under-18s or still £1 for under-11s.
