Carlos Corberan: Star deal shows West Brom moving in right direction.
Albion boss Carlos Corberan insists Mikey Johnston’s return on a permanent deal demonstrates the “positive” direction the club are heading in.
West Bromwich Albion’s Mikey Johnston celebrates
Winger Johnston rejoined from Celtic for a reported £3million on a four-year deal last month, after enjoying a stellar loan stint at the Hawthorns during the second half of last season.
He scored seven times and set-up one more in 20 appearances to help propel the Baggies into the Championship play-offs.
Corberan noted that the fee recouped from Brandon Thomas-Asante’s switch to Championship rivals Coventry City ultimately funded Johnston’s return, but he was pleased to be supported by the board in his quest to bring the Republic of Ireland international back to the club.
‘No secret’ – 26 year-old Swedish midfielder reacts to West Brom transfer interest.
A player which was strongly linked with a move to West Brom in the summer has spoken out about the speculation.
Swedish footballer Besard Sabovic has revealed that West Brom made an approach for him in the summer.
At the start of August, Sabovic was linked with a move to the Hawthorns, as the Swedish media claimed there was an interest shown by the Baggies. In the end, the versatile Callum Styles was signed from Barnsley, signing on a four-year contract.
It’s unsure whether West Brom still maintain an interest in Sabovic, but has reignited the rumours by confirming that there was interest in him during the summer. Sabovic is a 26-year-old midfielder, who is currently contracted to Djurgardens IF.
“It’s no secret that West Bromwich were interested in this summer,” admitted the two time Sweden under-21 international to Fotbollskanalen.
“Of course, it was fun that there was interest, and it would have been a fun step.
“But I’m fully focused on staying in Djurgården as long as I have my contract, and then I’ll do everything I can in these last games to get as high up in the table as possible.”
