Urgent traffic warning issued ahead of Coventry City’s FA Cup clash with Ipswich today
Kick off for the fourth round tie is at 3pm at the Coventry Building Society Arena
An urgent traffic warning has been issued ahead of Coventry City’s FA Cup clash with Ipswich. The Sky Blues have issued a message to supporters ahead of the fourth round tie this afternoon, Saturday, February 8.
The game kicks off at 3pm but a major road closure could impact journeys. A section of the A46 between Coventry and Kenilworth is closed this weekend.
It forms part of HS2 works. As a result, supporters are being warned there will be ‘some disruption to journey times’ during the closure.
The post on the Coventry City FC website reads: “Supporters attending Saturday’s game between Coventry City and Ipswich Town are advised to be aware of the A46 road closure that may affect their journey to the Coventry Building Society Arena.
“As part of works for HS2, a box structure is being constructed to take the new HS2 line under the A46 near Kenilworth. This is being built off-line and will be moved into place using a ‘box-push’ technique, with preparatory works to the central reservation and carriageway to enable this move to happen later in the spring.
“To ensure the safety of the workforce, a section of the A46 will be closed between Festival Island (Coventry) and Thickthorn Island (Kenilworth) from 8pm on Friday 7, February to 6am to Monday 10 February and then from 8pm on Friday 14 February to 6am on Monday 17February.
