Norwich City: Jacob Wright on Man City transfer option..
Norwich City new boy Jacob Wright says he’s got something to prove regardless of the Canaries’ option to sign him permanently.
Wright arrived at Carrow Road on transfer deadline day earlier this month, joining on an initial loan deal from Manchester City that can be made permanent in the summer.
The 19-year-old’s signing could also become an obligation under certain conditions, but he isn’t focused on the implications of his performances aside from showing he’s got what it takes in the Championship.
“You’ve always got a point to prove, whether there’s an option or not,” he said. “You’ve got to show that you’re good enough to play at the level.
“It’s a big call, but I’m at the age now where I feel I’m ready to go and play and I want to go and play. If the opportunity isn’t there at City, then I’ve got to go and find it somewhere else and make my own way.
“They’ve got the best players in the world, and they’ve also got the budget to buy the best players in the world if they’re not happy with them. It’s always going to be tough to break through.
“You can do everything that you can do to try and break through, but if the opportunity never arises, then it is what it is. You’ve got to look at your options and think about going elsewhere to try and prove yourself.”
Although Wright has been used to training and playing with those elite talents at the Etihad, he doesn’t believe that he’s had to adapt his game much for the rough and ready rigours of the second tier.
“I wouldn’t say that there are too many differences,” he continued. “It’s a very high-intensity, physical league and good quality as well, so there are not too many differences.
“That’s why I’ve come to play. Hopefully as the weeks go on I’ll continue to get better and better. As I settle in more I think I’ve got more in me to perform better.”
