Panic Button’ Not Being Pushed On Jets After Week 1 Loss

The New York Jets lost to the San Francisco 49ers in their Week 1 encounter, which, of course, led to a huge overreaction. Keep in mind that it was most of the Jets’ players’ first time playing together, coupled with being on the road against the defending NFC champs and one of the best teams in football; it was the perfect storm.

With the 32-19 loss, many were heavily critical of the Jets as it was a brutal beatdown, but it is only one game, and CBS Sports’ Jordan Dajani isn’t throwing the baby out with the bath water. “We’re not going to overreact too drastically and make sweeping declarations about teams depending on whether or not they won or lost in Week 1,” Dajani writes. “As it relates to the Jets, I’m not pushing the panic button on them because they couldn’t pull out a road win against arguably the best team in the NFL.”

Of course, there is ample room for improvement, and the Jets will no doubt have worked hard all week to fine-tune things ahead of the Tennessee Titans in Week 2. There were some positives, with Aaron Rodgers leading a couple of touchdown drives and Allen Lazard having his best game in forever, but of course, given who New York’s opponent was and the fact that some have them as Super Bowl contenders, it was a serious dent to the confidence people had in Robert Saleh’s team.
