Joël Veltman’s contract expires at the end of this season and Brighton & Hove Albion have an option to extend it for another year.

The defender arrived at The Amex in 2020 from Ajax, after spending close to two decades at the Dutch club.

On January 31st, the Dutchman stated he had held talks with Ajax technical director Alex Kroes last summer but hasn’t heard from him since then. He had also insisted there’s the “real option’ of extending his stay at the Premier League club.

Former NAC Breda and Brighton defender Hans Kraay Jr. discussed Veltman’s situation at the English club and the reports linking him to Ajax during ESPN NL’s Goedemorgen Eredivisie. Soccer News have relayed his comments.

Hans Kraay Jr. claims he contacted the current Brighton right-back to ask about the recent claims of Ajax’s interest.

“He plays like a charm there. He does everything in a fantastic way and is extremely popular,” he said.

“But I asked him: your name is going around at Ajax. He says: at the moment, not Ajax either. I’m just going to extend another year.”

Brighton are likely to exercise the option to extend Veltman’s contract until 2026.
