Jets Mourn Loss Of Legendary Broadcaster
New York sports lost one of the greatest broadcasters the market has ever seen. Al Trautwig passed away on February 23, 2025 after undergoing treatments for an undisclosed form of cancer. MSG Networks host and reporter and ESPN radio host Alan Hahn broke the news on X. “I’m sad to share the news that we lost a legendary voice in sports.
But we lost a lot more than that. He was not only a friend, but a mentor and a teacher. He was, personally, one of my biggest resources of support when I moved into this career. Rest in peace.” Hahn shared. Trautwig was a mainstay on MSG Networks for decades, famed for his studio coverage of the New York Knicks, New York Yankees, and New York Rangers. Trautwig also hosted Jets Journal on the network from 1987-2004. “Al was a true professional at everything he did,” said Jets Ambassador Marty Lyons.
“Working with him for so many years on Jets Journal, we became close friends, and I used him as a mentor. When I was inducted to the Jets Ring of Honor, Al was on the field, which meant so much to me.” Lyons looked up to Trautwig as a broadcaster, recalling asking the legend for help.
