ESPN’s ‘Get Up’ Holds Mock Funeral for Aaron Rodgers Jets Jersey Hanging in Studio: ‘Such an Incredibly Sad Story’
The crew of ESPN’s Get Up took a moment to mourn over Aaron Rodgers’s New York Jets jersey that has been hanging in the studio the last two seasons.
Shortly after Rodgers signed with the team ahead of the 2023-24 season, Get Up host Mike Greenberg — a diehard Jets fan — framed his jersey to prominently display it in the studio.
The jersey was gifted to him by Rodgers himself.
Unfortunately for Greenberg, Rodgers and the Jets, his two seasons with the team were disappointing at best.
The quarterback missed the entirety of the 2023 season after tearing his Achilles on the very first set of downs in the season opener; and the highly-anticipated 2024 campaign saw the team finish just 5-12.
The team recently announced that it would be moving on from Rodgers and searching for another QB.
On Monday’s episode of Get Up, Greenberg acknowledged the elephant in the room that was the now-outdated jersey. He did so by huddling everyone around it to mourn while sad music played in the studio.
“We’re gonna do a ceremony here,” Greenberg said, “because, look, the bottom line of it is I’m not ready to process the end of this era yet. We went into this with the highest of hopes and expectations; and I’m not ready to move on. So people are saying, ‘What jersey’s gonna go up there next?’ I don’t know yet, so [Alan Hahn], if you would do the honors
