Leeds United Women fate ‘surely sealed’ after what happened v Huddersfield
Leeds United Women entered 2025 in good form, but they may have thrown it all away.
Simon Wood has got his side playing attractive football and ahead of the Christmas break, the Whites had lost only three games.
However, since the return to football in the New Year, results have dipped for the West Yorkshire outfit and a 2-1 defeat against Huddersfield Town on Sunday (2 March) continued that form.
Leeds fall to defeat at Huddersfield
Although their form has been somewhat disappointing of late, Leeds went into the game against Huddersfield unbeaten in two and would have been keen to continue that form against their local rivals.
Wood’s side made the trip to Huddersfield on Sunday and despite going behind in the first half, Amy Woodruff was on hand to provide the equaliser in the 31st minute.
Just three minutes later though, it was the Terriers who took the lead again after a penalty.
The second half provided no goals and the game finished 2-1 to Huddersfield, leaving the two sides sitting on 29 points in the table, the Whites higher on goal difference.
Leeds see promotion fate sealed
Although the West Yorkshire outfit had their eyes on the top of the table this term, their defeat on Sunday has surely sealed their fate in the league for this season.
The Whites now sit fourth in the table, 10 points away from Cheadle Town who occupy the top spot and four points off Chorley who are third in the league.
Team | Position | Played | Won | Drawn | Lost | Goals for | Goals against | Goal difference | Points |
Cheadle Town | 1 | 18 | 12 | 3 | 3 | 30 | 9 | 21 | 39 |
Middlesborough | 2 | 17 | 10 | 6 | 1 | 25 | 12 | 13 | 36 |
Chorley | 3 | 17 | 10 | 3 | 4 | 36 | 24 | 12 | 33 |
Leeds United | 4 | 17 | 9 | 2 | 6 | 38 | 27 | 11 | 29 |
Huddersfield | 5 | 17 | 8 | 5 | 4 | 28 | 18 | 10 | 29 |

Therefore, with just five more matches to go until the end of the campaign, this defeat has surely ended any hopes in the Leeds camp that promotion can be achieved this term.
