Leeds work on A-list striker signing’ after ‘huge’ Cameron Archer update
Leeds United are considering alternatives to Cameron Archer despite a strong interest in signing the Southampton striker this summer.
That is according to former Man United and Aston Villa scout Mick Brown, who remains very well-connected within the game, as he exclusively told Football Insider that the 23-year-old is on Daniel Farke’s list of targets.
However, after Southampton paid a “huge” £17million fee to sign the forward from Villa, there are concerns about whether that money could be better spent elsewhere.
Brown explained that Archer fits into the bracket of “players who are very good in the Championship, but not quite good enough for the Premier League”.
As a result, Leeds have been tipped to be more ambitious in their summer recruitment targets amid links to Roma striker Tammy Abraham.
This comes after former Leeds goalkeeper Paul Robinson told Football Insider that Leeds want to sign Archer alongside another A-list striker.
The Southampton forward has scored just two goals in 24 league appearances this season and his side look destined for relegation once again.
Leeds to aim higher than Cameron Archer in new transfer twist
After links with a move to sign Norwich star Josh Sargent, Football Insider revealed that Leeds want to sign a better striker than Sargent ahead of their anticipated promotion.
