NY Jets’ reported interest in re-signing Morgan Moses could alter OL plans
The Jets want Moses back.
For the first time in what feels like over a decade, the NY Jets enter the 2025 offseason without a dire need to overhaul their offensive line. Four of their five starters are under contract and expected to return, with a chance the fifth could be back as well.
ESPN’s Rich Cimini reported on Saturday that the Jets “remain in talks” with Moses about a potential return in 2025. Cimini noted that there is no clear replacement for Moses on the Jets’ roster at the moment and that the right tackle market this offseason is rather thin.
The 11-year veteran battled through a knee injury to start 14 games for the Jets this past season, and, according to Cimini, Moses recently passed his physical ahead of free agency.
It’s unclear what kind of market Moses will attract at this stage of his career or if he’d even be interested in returning. He may prefer to sign with a contender, and the Jets likely wouldn’t fit that criteria.
But if the interest is mutual, it makes a ton of sense for the Jets to bring him back.
How Morgan Moses re-signing could impact NY Jets’ offensive line plans
The Jets have less work to do on their offensive line this offseason compared to previous years. They still need to address the right tackle position and improve depth, but the core of the unit — Olu Fashanu, John Simpson, Joe Tippmann, and Alijah Vera-Tucker — is already in place.
Re-signing Moses would be a good start, but at 34 years old and with his recent injury history, relying on him as a surefire starting option in 2025 would be risky. The Jets would be smart to pair him with his potential replacement.
Ideally, the Jets could target an offensive tackle prospect on either Day 1 or Day 2 of the 2025 NFL Draft with the expectation that said rookie would eventually take over as the full-time starting right tackle in 2026. Given Moses’ age and recent injuries, they’d probably find their way on the field even sooner.
This approach would provide the Jets with a proven short-term starter at right tackle while also securing a long-term solution for the position. Bringing Moses back before the draft would also give the team added flexibility when making their selections in April.
