Struggling Dodgers Youngster Still Makes Japan Roster Against Cubs
The Los Angeles Dodgers and Chicago Cubs are gearing up for an exciting and historic two-game set in Tokyo later this month. In less than one week, the NL teams will converge at the Tokyo Dome to kick off Major League Baseball’s season, international style once again for Los Angeles.
With the long travel and shortened Spring Training camp, the Dodgers and Cubs will be allowed to carry extra players on the travel roster to account for injuries. Part of that travel roster will include struggling outfielder James Outman. He confirmed that with The Athletic’s Fabian Ardaya on Monday morning. Outman spent just 53 games at the big league level in 2024.

This spring hasn’t been much different either, as he has managed to string together five hits in 26 at-bats so far, striking out in 45 percent of his plate appearances.
If there is one saving grace for him, Outman has seemed to find a little more power in the last week. He hit a three-run home run on Sunday afternoon, his second extra-base hit in the last couple of games.
Outman will likely slot in as the backup outfield option should the Dodgers find themselves in need during the Japan series. If not, it definitely looks like Outman is destined for another Triple-A assignment in 2025. It’s an unfortunate reality, as he has the potential to play. However, for the loaded Dodgers, nothing is ever guaranteed.
