Why Tim Walter is convinced Hull City will turn their Championship fortunes around.

Hull City return to action against Stoke City under the lights in Staffordshire on Friday evening.

Tim Walter remains confident his Hull City side will pick up results and move away from the bottom of the table after a winless start to the season.

City were beaten 2-0 by Sheffield United on Friday night, their second straight league defeat to leave them in the early season relegation zone, having drawn their opening three games.

Frustrated fans booed Walter’s side off at half-time and full-time against a Blades side who barely broke sweat, scoring two goals after capitalising on Tigers errors.

Walter’s side are yet to score first since he took charge, bagging just one goal from open play in their opening five league games,. Their other strike came from the penalty spot, and they face a Stoke City side at the bet365 Stadium on Friday night who sacked manager Steven Schumacher on Monday.

Despite the obvious frustration – and growing concern – from supporters, Walter remains positive about his side and feels they’re improving each week. Having described Friday’s display as their best so far, he remains full of belief things will turn in their favour.

“Yes, I’m really confident,” he told Hull Live. “You can see it because I’m convinced by my team because the performance, how we played, you can say it’s a bad result, but we played how we played (very well).

“It was for me, a good way. We had a lot of possession, we created a lot of chances and we can do it even more if we finish our last pass a bit better and then we can talk about the results.

“It’s all about principles. It’s all about principles, everything we are doing, it’s all about principles so that the lads know on the pitch what to do, if they do it every day, it’s automatic. It’s principles and they showed that they know it, but unfortunately, as I mentioned before we made two mistakes and sometimes, it’s the part you can’t count on because it happens.

“Do you see me frustrated? I’m not really. I’m frustrated about the result, for sure, because I want to win all the time. I have the will to win, about that, we can talk. Yes, it’s a bad result but we are at the beginning of the season, we have (played) just five games.

“Nothing happened, but we want to win. They kept going until the end of the game, they tried to score and that’s what we showed, that they have a good mentality and that’s good to see.”
