The Scottish midfielder, who has been a bit-part player this season with just ten league appearances, has nonetheless performed well when called upon.
There are whispers that West Ham could look to sell Irving this summer, with Blackburn Rovers having tried to secure him on loan during the January transfer window.
Now 24, Irving was called up to the Scotland squad in October 2024 for their Nations League games against Croatia and Portugal—recognition for his steady development.
He joined West Ham from Austria Klagenfurt in 2023 for £1.6 million after being identified by technical director Tim Steidten. Irving had enjoyed a prolific loan spell in the Austrian Bundesliga, scoring nine goals from midfield.
Upon taking charge at West Ham, Graham Potter praised the Edinburgh-born midfielder, saying: “He’s trained well and I think it’s important for the group to know that. I’m pleased with him.”
Irving is known to be a popular figure in the dressing room and is reportedly the lowest earner in the squad. His recent stint at centre-back may have done him a few favours, possibly earning him some extra time at the club.
With a major squad overhaul expected this summer, Potter is likely to assess Irving more closely in the coming weeks.
