Stoke City went into the winter transfer window knowing it was important they got it right. It marked a first chance for new SCFC boss Mark Robins to shape the squad to his liking.
Recruitment has been a real struggle for the Potters for some time now. Regardless of who the manager is or who is named as head of recruitment, there are few instances where they can say they got it spot on in the transfer market.
The loan deal for Tom Cannon last summer paid off. He bagged nine goals in the first half of the campaign but his sale to Sheffield United left Robins in need of another striker.
Plenty were linked and Ali Al-Hamadi was eventually signed, but one rumoured target Stoke City should be glad they missed out on is Jayden Danns.
Danns was sought after by a host of Championship clubs in the winter transfer window as Liverpool looked to send the young striker out on loan for senior opportunities elsewhere.
The Bet365 Stadium could have been a good destination for him too. One young striker had already starred with Stoke City in Cannon, while Danns’ Liverpool youth teammate Lewis Koumas is on the books with the Championship side too.
However, the second half of the season has been a disaster for Danns.
