Wrexham are sitting in the final automatic promotion spot ahead of Wycombe Wanderers and are starting to dream of Championship football.
Phil Parkinson’s side are aiming for a record third successive promotion and despite Opta’s Wrexham supercomputer prediction, the Red Dragons are in pole position to move out of League One.
Wycombe have a tough run in on paper with the Chairboys still having to play six games against the top nine in the division but Wrexham will know there are no easy games at this stage of the season.
However, owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney will already be making tentative plans for the Championship next season and recruitment will be vital if the club stand any chance of surviving the step up.
James McClean and Jay Rodriguez are among four players with Premier League experience in the current Wrexham squad and that will need to be added to should Parkinson’s side go up this season.
A player the club could target immediately is Steven Fletcher’s international team mate Tom Cairney, whose contract runs out in the summer at Fulham.
Wrexham could talk to Cairney right now about a potential deal however, as per Salary Sport, his £27k-a-week wages would need to be negotiated.
