Commanders Trade Rumor Moves $56 Million Star From Ravens
If there was one player who impressed the Washington Commanders more in their first season with the team, Zach Ertz was arguably the most surprising. The 34-year-old former Super Bowl champion caught 66 passes for 654 yards, and caught seven touchdowns. The numbers were the best he has had in an overall season since his last full season with the Philadelphia Eagles in 2019.
Yet while the Commanders are excited to get Ertz back for another year, that doesn’t mean the organization should simply move past addressing the tight end position. In the case of the Last Word on Sports writer Anthony Palacios, the Commanders could look to inquire about the trade possibility of Baltimore Ravens All-Pro Mark Andrews to bolster the position group.
“Zach Ertz is coming back on another yearly deal, but this might be his last season with them as the Commanders will probably search for a new tight end in the draft. If that doesn’t work, they could pursue a veteran in free agency. Andrews is more than capable of holding the fort together for quarterback Jayden Daniels, as he’s younger and more upside than Ertz,” Palacios writes.
Andrews is younger than Ertz, but also has plenty of injury concerns from the last few seasons. With the former third round pick entering the final year in Baltimore, the asking price could be lower than usual at this point. But there’s also the reality of eating Andrews’ $16 million cap hit going into the season as well. So while a tight-end room with both Andrews and Ertz making life difficult for any defense the Commanders could potentially face, it’s still unlikely the $56 million tight end’s next stop is in the nation’s capital.
