Some members of the Sheffield Wednesday squad are yet to receive their wages for the month of March with the PFA now involved in the matter.
The day before the Owls’ 1-0 loss to Hull City, the club’s owner, Dejphon Chansiri, admitted to The Star that his players were yet to be paid the money they were owed from the third month of 2025, and if it wasn’t paid by today (Monday, 7th April), then Wednesday would face a three-window transfer ban, not allowing them to spend any fees on players until January 2027.
Chansiri confirmed to The Star that the rest of the club’s staff had been paid, but he could not give any assurances that all the players would fall into the same category before the automatic sanctions fell on the Owls.
Those players who featured against Ruben Selles’ relegation-fighting Tigers did so despite still having not received their March payments.
Some Sheffield Wednesday players still yet to receive their wages
The Star has further reported that, as of Sunday morning, some of Danny Rohl’s men hadn’t been paid their March salaries.
It should come as no surprise that the Steel City outlet also said that the Professional Footballers’ Association (PFA) are now involved in the matter, with no clear indication of when the issue will be resolved.
This uncertain period for the club, of which there have been a number since Chansiri took over at Hillsborough in 2015, could well have knock-on effects larger than just an inability to buy players for the next year-and-a-half. The situation doesn’t appear to have improved the manager’s chances of sticking around in S6 for too long, as he looked visibly drained by it all following Saturday’s 1-0 defeat.
