Phillies’ Nick Castellanos Turns Heads With Surprising Home Run Failure
The Philadelphia Phillies lost the first game of their ongoing series against the New York Mets 5-4 in an exciting fashion. After entering the ninth inning down 5-0, the Phillies staged a despairing comeback effort as Bryson Stott hit a three-run homer against Mets closer Edwin Diaz. Many neutral baseball fans would’ve hoped, however, for these runs to be scored by a different Phillies batter.
Nick Castellanos has built a reputation for hitting home runs after major global bad news. Pope Francis’ tragic death was announced early last morning, and gamblers instantly saw an opportunity to make a value bet. Before the announcement, odds for Castellanos to hit a home run were around +625 to +630. After the news came in, the odds experienced a noticeable dip, while Castellanos had three times as many bets placed on his home run probability as any other MLB player on April 21st. There came a point when oddsmakers even locked the odds and prevented further bets from being placed on him. Betting companies probably heaved a sigh of relief after Castellanos failed to register a hit. Nick Castellanos HR odds are now locked

His third at-bat in the sixth inning produced a foul-out, while his fourth at-bat in the eighth was a fly ball caught at center field. The 33-year-old right fielder has coincidentally produced hits and home runs after a wide variety of mishaps. His streak began in 2011 after he homered after Osama Bin Laden’s death. One year ago today, magic happened.
