The experienced midfielder joined City on deadline day along with Carl Rushworth, Abu Kamara and Mohamed Belloumi, but his move from the West Midlands to East Yorkshire left Sky Blues chief Mark Robins unhappy with how it played out, and given how influential the ex-Blues academy graduate has been to their success in the past couple of seasons, Goodman felt letting him go caught him a little off guard.

Palmer, who came off the bench to make his Tigers debut in the second half of the defeat at Leeds United prior to the international break, and then came off the bench to have a positive impact against Sheffield United on Friday night, was in the final year of his contract at the CBS Arena and discussions over an extension to the deal he signed in 2022 had made little progress.

City stepped in to take advantage of that contract stand-off and snapped up the Jamaica international on a three-year deal, with Robins admitting he didn’t want the 27-year-old to move on.
