Leeds United Monitoring Farke Replacement
Leeds United are said to be ‘keeping tabs’ on the manager they want to replace the under-pressure Daniel Farke, according to the Sunday Mirror.
West Bromwich Albion manager Carlos Corberan is the man interesting the Leeds hierarchy, and there are claims that he has a £2 million release clause on a contract that runs until 2027.
Following Saturday’s victory against Cardiff City, United occupy sixth spot in the Championship table and have only been beaten by promotion-chasing Burnley in their last five outings.
Leeds has no plans to fire Farke just yet as it is still early in the season but it is understood he is under ‘big pressure’ to win promotion to the Premier League.
Corberan has previously worked at Elland Road as an assistant to Marcelo Bielsa and is believed to be well-liked by the Yorkshire club.
The Spaniard initially left Elland Road for the Huddersfield Town job and guided the Terriers to within one match of the Premier League, losing the playoff final to Nottingham Forest in 2022.
A short spell in charge of Olympiacos followed before returning to England and taking the job at the Hawthorns.
In his first full season with the Baggies, he guided them to the playoffs where they were beaten by eventual promotion winners Southampton. This season, his side are unbeaten in six league matches and have only dropped points in the 0-0 draw with Leeds on match day three.
Corberan has worked impressively while being unable to spend the sums some of his Championship counterparts can. Over the summer, he lost key players such as Cedric Kipre and Okay Yokuslo but is still leading the way in the division, ahead of much-fancied sides such as Burnley and Sheffield United.
Corberan’s history with Leeds, under the much-loved Bielsa, coupled with his impressive performances as a manager in England means that interest from Leeds is no surprise.
Clubs will often have contingency plans should players or managers leave but this news will be unwelcome for those at West Brom as the pull of Leeds United may just be too hard to resist for their manager should the vacancy arise.
