Middlesbrough tried and failed to sign Ryan Giles during the 2024 summer transfer window.
One of the longest-running transfer sagas at the Riverside Stadium over the summer involved Ryan Giles.
The left-back shone in the North East during the 2022/23 campaign when on loan from Wolverhampton Wanderers, assisting 11 in 45 Championship appearances.
Then, with Alex Bangura injured again and Lukas Engel underperforming, Boro went in search of left-back reinforcements during the most recent window.
Middlesbrough were linked with Giles for much of the summer amid uncertainty around his Hull City future.
Reports emerged in early July that stated Boro were preparing to bid for Giles.
His return would have been a major boost for the Reds and no doubt helped in their promotion push.
However, Hull’s owner then confirmed a move for Giles was not on the cards and that he would be staying in Yorkshire.

While a move for the 24-year-old did not come to pass over the summer, Middlesbrough should still have hope they can complete a deal in the near future.
Giles started the campaign as the Tigers’ primary left-sided defender but after a run of four games without a win, he played just 45 minutes against Sheffield United and was an unused substitute when Hull beat Stoke City last week.
