Newcastle United tease 'special' St James' Park addition ahead of PSG Champions League clash

Interested to see these costings for a brand new stadium or redeveloped St James’ Park.

A few issues have cropped up that have caught my attention in recent weeks and as a Newcastle United fan, made me feel appalled, excited, confused, frustrated and proud in turn.

I dealt with the “appalled” when I had my rant about the match day thread negativity – especially as directed towards Sean Longstaff – a couple of weeks ago.

I’m pleased to say that it seems to have been the low point of the fledgling season and, even despite the poor result at Fulham, things have steadily improved since. Especially with the performance against Manchester City.

This brings me to the “excited” bit.

Not just because of the eventual performance on the pitch, but the long awaited first start in almost a year for our “Italian Stallion”, Sandro Tonali. Rarely has a Second Coming been so eagerly demanded and anticipated and the lad didn’t disappoint.

Strangely, Mrs Lass and myself had a sort of premonition of his arrival whilst on holiday in his homeland last month. We were waiting for a ferry to cross Lake Garda from Sirmione to Desenzano and it was late! A huge queue was building up behind us and one or two people were becoming fractious (sound familiar?). It wasn’t actually 10 months in the waiting but it certainly seemed it. Suddenly, a dot appeared on the horizon and tensions began to ease. Then the premonition.

As the boat came nearer Mrs Lass suddenly grabbed my arm and said, “My God – look at its name!”. Yes, “steaming up” to save the day for everyone was the SS Tonale! (Well, the signwriter obviously couldn’t spell)

Tonale saves the day….

Like it’s compatriot and (almost) namesake, the boat may have been late arriving but when it did then, like Sr Tonali, it did its job perfectly, was very quick and soon had everyone relaxed, happy and enjoying the journey.

That evening we watched Italy against Israel and our boy played the full 90 minutes and was everywhere. He turned in an immense performance for the national team (again) and was unlucky to have a goal chalked off for offside. It was so close that I could only imagine Liverpool not sweating over it. I commented to Mrs Lass that he should have cut his toe nails, her laconic reply being, “Did you mean his toe nalis?”
