Hull City new boy Charlie Hughes has posted on X that making his debut over the weekend was a ‘really proud moment’.
Hull City swooped to land the centre-back from Wigan Athletic in the last transfer window. He has had to wait to feature for the first time after having his appendix removed.
Hughes, 20, was brought on for Sean McLoughlin at half-time on Saturday at Carrow Road against Norwich City. Tim Walter’s side ended up losing 4-0 to the Canaries and were well beaten in the end as they returned to East Yorkshire with nothing.
Despite their loss, their new recruit took to social media to send the following message: “Not the outcome we wanted… On a personal note I am delighted to have made my debut for this amazing club. Really proud moment for me putting the shirt on! Thank you for your support. We bounce back after the break.”
Hull City debut
Hughes is still getting back up to speed and will have benefitting from getting some game time against Norwich City.
Hull City signed him this past summer as one for the future and he penned a long-term deal at the MKM Stadium.

He will be eager to nail down a regular place in their starting XI over the coming weeks and months as Walter’s side look to rise up the table.

The youngster will battle it out with McLoughlin for a place in the team next to Alfie Jones.
Hughes was on the books at both Liverpool and Manchester City before Wigan Athletic signed him.
He broke into the Latics’ side and went on to become a key player, scoring five goals in 76 games in all competitions.

What now?
Hull City will want to bounce back from their defeat to Norwich City after the international break.
They won three games on the spin against Stoke City, Cardiff City and QPR before their loss against the Canaries.
The Tigers are still a work in progress and are back in action in a couple of weeks against high-flying Sunderland as they look to return to winning ways.
