luton town, Luton Town failed with late bid for Peterborough United star

Luton Town failed with a late bid for Peterborough United star Kwame Poku, Posh chairman Darragh MacAnthony has revealed.
Luton Town weren’t particularly busy in the summer transfer window with their squad in a decent place after relegation from the Premier League.

Injuries meant the Hatters started the campaign with dwindled ranks, but their options have strengthened in recent weeks. As such, they will have hoped to have a win on the board by now, but they remain without a victory after four games.

There were some notable departures from Kenilworth Road though, with Chiedozie Ogbene among them. He joined Ipswich Town in the Premier League late on.

Now, it has emerged that Luton Town were rebuffed in their bid to replace the Irish star.

Speaking on his podcast, ‘The Hard Truth’ (quotes via the Peterborough Telegraph), Peterborough United chairman and co-owner Darragh MacAnthony has revealed he knocked back a late bid ‘in the millions’ for Kwame Poku from the Hatters.

The 22-year-old’s deal is up next summer and MacAnthony expects more bids in a similar region to come in. He said:

“Luton Town did come in quite late in the window for Kwame after they sold a winger to the Premier League.

“It was a good bid, one in the millions, but at that stage we just told them we weren’t selling Kwame.

“We are quite relaxed about Kwame, and he has been as good as gold about everything, because he will still be under 24 when his contract ends so we would still get a fee for him. I’d expect to get bids similar to the ones we have already had.”
