BOSTON — The Bruins earned their first win of the season on Thursday when they defeated the Montreal Canadiens, 6-4, at TD Garden in their home opener. Boston is now 1-1-0.
An exciting first period featured five goals — three of which came in a 2:20 span — before Boston pulled away in the second. The Canadiens attempted to come back and made it 5-3 with 10:55 left in the third thanks to a goal from Kaiden Guhle, and made it even more interesting with 4:17 left when Gallagher made it 5-4.

But it was Mark Kastelic who gave the Bruins some insurance with four minutes left in the game and made it 6-4 with his second goal of the night.
Jeremy Swayman made his season debut and gave up four goals on 25 shots.
After Hampus Lindholm’s power play goal was called back thanks to a successful goaltender interference challenge, the Canadiens took the lead on their own power play on a Brendan Gallagher redirect to make it 1-0.
Charlie McAvoy tied it five seconds into Boston’s next power play when he ripped a wrist shot past Cayden Primeau, but Cole Caufield gave Montreal the 2-1 lead a minute later as the Bruins’ net-front coverage continued to struggle.

A minute later Kastelic scored his first as a Bruin to tie it with on a great play by Cole Koepke to drive the puck to the net. With 1:37 left in the opening period Elias Lindholm also scored his first as a member of the Bruins to give the home team a 3-2 lead — their first of the game.

After 20 minutes of play, the Bruins outshot the Canadiens 13-6.
Two more goals in the second — one from David Pastrnak and the other from Cole Koepke — gave the Bruins a 5-2 lead going into the third.
