Former Coventry City midfielder appointed Thomas Tuchel’s England assistant
Coventry City old boy news from CoventryLive as former Sky Blues midfielder is appointed assistant manager of the England men’s national team, joining German coach Thomas Tuchel
England’s newly appointed manager Thomas Tuchel has been a hot subject for debate after being appointed as Gareth Southgate’s successor, but did you know that his assistant started his career at Coventry City?
The German was today confirmed as the new head coach of the Three Lions, and the former Chelsea and Bayern Munich boss will have English coach Anthony Barry as his right-hand man.
Sky Blues fans might be forgiven for not recalling the 38-year-old from his early playing days. The Liverpool-born coach started out at Everton’s academy but on his release at 18, the then midfielder joined Coventry City for a one year spell between 2004/05, where he was a regular in the reserves but never broke through to the first team, then managed by Toffees’ legend and former England player Peter Reid.
Barry went on to play for Accrington Stanley, Yeovil, Fleetwood, Forest Green Rovers and Chester before ending his playing days with a second spell at Wrexham.
