The defender has found opportunities hard to come by so far this season

Hull City academy graduate Matty Jacob has hailed the quality of the club’s summer recruitment spree, even if it means he’s been knocked down the pecking order.

Jacob became something of a regular in the second half of last season under Liam Rosenior, after dislodging January signing Ryan Giles. Though the 23-year-old started the new campaign at home to Bristol City, he hasn’t played a minute since, appearing on the bench just three times.

City boss Tim Walter opted to start with Ryan Giles and in recent weeks and has deployed Cody Drameh on the left side of the back four as he continues to search for the winning formula in his starting XI.

“I’ve never played with Liam Millar, for example, apart from the 20 minutes he came on against Bristol City (on the opening day), so we need to get used to playing with each other, and it’ll be all fine.

“It’s always nice to get minutes because recently I’ve been out of the team, as have a few of the lads, so it’s good for everyone to get minutes, whether it’s 45, a bit more or a bit less, it’s good.

“The last few weeks have been tough with not getting in squads and whatever, but all I can do is keep training, keep training well and when I do get chances to play in games like this (against Alanyaspor), I do as much as I can out there.”
