West Bromwich Albion manager Carlos Corberan

West Brom injury setback revealed ahead of Blackburn trip.

West Brom boss Carlos Corberan is expected to be without Mason Holgate again at Blackburn.

Mason Holgate is an injury concern for West Bromwich Albion having collected a minor issue while away representing Jamaica during the recent international break. Holgate made his Reggae Boyz debut from the bench in the win over Nicaragua and then was handed a first start against Honduras in a goalless draw days later.

Holgate hasn’t yet made an appearance for Albion in his second loan spell with the club, five years on from his first experience of The Hawthorns; the versatile defender, borrowed from Everton on transfer deadline day, has been a regular in the squad but playing for Jamaica was the first time this season he has been subjected to minutes since the opening game of the Toffees’ season, against Brighton.

Holgate returned to the Black Country last week with a small issue in his quad and as a result didn’t travel to Oxford United, where Albion were made to settle for a 1-1 draw after conceding late. It’s doubtful he’ll be involved on Wednesday when the Baggies tackle Blackburn Rovers (KO 7:45pm) and instead the visit of Cardiff this Saturday may be a more likely return target.

“In his last game with the national team with Jamaica he felt something in the quad. It doesn’t look very serious, but from the day of the scan it looks like he will be out for one week,” Carlos Corberan said.

“Holgate is in the same situation as the previous game. He wants to put himself ready, but it would be a risk to increase an injury that is small, with no sense, so he will stay in the same situation and all of the other players are fine for now.”
