Former England right-back Kieran Trippier though has been ruled out of the encounter against the Seagulls at St James’ Park due to a hamstring injury sustained in the 0-0 draw with Everton. Howe stated that Isak’s toe injury had now “healed” and while Wilson may require more time, he is not completely out of contention for the weekend.

Howe, speaking at his pre-match Press conference ahead of the home clash with Brighton & Hove Albion, said: “Alex has trained well and trained well. He started this week and he has improved so at this moment in time he is in contention.

Callum has trained but with Callum we will continue to assess him day by day. When we get him back we want to keep him back for as long as possible so it’s about making the right call.”

Trippier’s absence will open the door for Tino Livramento who was unused during the international break and is now looking forward to Premier League action once again. Speaking on Trippier’s problem, Howe said: “Kieran has picked up a hamstring problem. It’s probably nothing too serious, but it will keep him out for a few weeks.”

The Newcastle head coach will assess his other options and the returning international stars but Miguel Almiron has been the last through the door after Paraguay duty. Howe said: “The only player we haven’t seen as of yet is Miguel Almiron. He was flying yesterday so we anticipate we’ll see him this morning. Everyone else is good and they’ve come back in good fettle.”
