Club’s director forced to weigh in on rumoured Sunderland swoop for ‘important’ star

With Sunderland continuing to assert themselves as title challengers in the Championship, with every passing win, more and more attention will be put towards the January transfer window.

The January transfer window will no doubt play a significant role in shaping Sunderland’s fortunes in the Championship this season.

For Regis Le Bris, whilst he and his Sunderland side have enjoyed a very strong start to the new Championship campaign, it feels almost inevitable that this youthful first-team squad will eventually tire, and their inexperience will shine through.

Black Cats sporting director Kristjaan Speakman added experience during the summer transfer window, mainly with the addition of Alan Browne. Though more might be needed in January to ensure Sunderland have an arsenal capable of getting over the line.

One such addition that’s been rumoured is Jordan Henderson; the Sunderland academy graduate and former Liverpool captain is now playing at Ajax.

Sunderland have been linked with Henderson of late, amid apparent uncertainty over his future in the Netherlands.

Henderson, who reportedly earns £74k-a-week at Ajax, recently spoke out on his future amid his ongoing links to the Stadium of Light.

He said: “When my contract here expires, I will be 36 years old. Then I will see how I am physically and what Ajax wants. I may end my career here. It could very well be.”
