Gallagher, Gooch – Stoke City injury news ahead of Southampton cup clash
Latest news from the treatment room at Clayton Wood
Sam Gallagher is due to have a further assessment at the end of this week to work out how quickly he can be back playing for Stoke City.
The 29-year-old striker has been able to return to Clayton Wood to work with medical staff after being ordered off any physical work for the first couple of weeks when he suffered a hamstring injury at Swansea earlier this month.
He has missed three matches already in a division when fixtures come thick and fast and Stoke hope to have him up and running as quickly as possible.
Narcis Pelach said: “We gave Sam some days off first because the medical staff recommended that was best for him from a mental point of view because he couldn’t do anything from a physical point of view. Now he’s back in the building and working with the physios every day.
“We’re waiting for a new assessment but he’s going well in his recovery, he’s working hard every day, he wants to come back and he’s such a big player for us. Of course we miss him and we all can see that but it is what it is, it’s an opportunity for someone else to step in until we wait for him. Another player has to step up and then when he comes back we’ll be very happy to have him.”
