Jets Predicted to Trade $10 Million Playmaker Ahead of Deadline

The New York Jets have already made a big move at wide receiver with the acquisition of Davante Adams from the Las Vegas Raiders, but another one may be on the way ahead of the NFL’s November 5 trade deadline. Jeremy Fowler of ESPN named New York wideout Mike Williams the most likely player to change teams over the next week.

“What’s clear is the Jets are open to a trade, Williams is open to a trade and there is external interest in a deal,” Fowler reported on Wednesday, Oct. 30. “My sense, though, is the Jets want to get through Thursday night’s game with the [Houston] Texans before fully assessing the market and potentially doing a deal.”

New York is 2-6 on the season, which makes their “Thursday Night Football” matchup in Texas something awfully close to a must-win game. Receiver Allen Lazard is out with a chest injury, so Williams could also play an important role in the Jets offense against Houston.

Williams signed a one-year deal worth $10 million total to join the Jets in March after the Los Angeles Chargers released the wideout earlier in the month in favor of clearing $20 million in salary cap space. At 30 years old, Williams retains significant value. He has surpassed 1,000 yards receiving yards on two different occasions across his eight-year career and has accounted for 31 TDs in 96 regular-season games played.
