Andy Thompson in no doubt who Wolves’ best player was against Crystal Palace
The search for a first Premier League win continues for Wolves, after the team drew 2-2 with Crystal Palace.
Fans had hoped to see Wolves build on their comeback against Brighton the weekend before.
Wolves did again come from behind again Palace. But poor defending meant they only took a point at Molineux.
It was a familiar story. Wolves have been in winning positions several times now this term, but have been unable to see games out.
Gary O’Neil is now under big pressure going into the next game. It’s very possible Fosun may decide to sack O’Neil if he doesn’t beat Southampton.
Against Palace, Wolves fought hard. But they were undone again by poor defending which was frustrating.
But one man really stood out for Wolves on the day, and that was Joao Gomes.
Arguably, Joao Gomes was Wolves’ best performer against Palace on Saturday.
The Brazilian had a bit of a slow start to the new season. But in recent weeks his level has been increasing.
Against Manchester City and Brighton the South American was really industrious and it was the same story against the Eagles.
Gomes played like a man possessed in the second-half, and also managed to get his first goal at Molineux and third for the club in total.
Andy Thompson delivered an emphatic verdict on Gomes after the game, believing he was Wolves’ star performer.
He said on Matchday Live Extra: “Gomes for me. I thought that he worked, he got himself a goal, he never stopped, he was chasing things down. He was trying to drive the team up, he was running with the ball, he was bouncing off people.
